LILY GUNN
Civic and Community Engagement Coordinator, AmeriCorps VISTA
How did I get here?
In the spring of 2021, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in communication and media from Penn State University. While studying at Penn State, I focused on the fact that strategic communication can be used to spread impactful messages to the world in an artistic way. I thrive on the idea of using skillful communication to bring people together and inspire change. Upon graduating, I struggled with the idea that I might use my degree for something that wasn’t meaningful. So, I decided to put my skills in communication to use as an AmeriCorps VISTA.
Why am I at the Switchboard?
The All for All Coalition and I found each other in the fall of 2021. I was drawn to the idea of advancing immigrant and refugee inclusion in Pittsburgh because I have experience serving similar populations in Erie, Pennsylvania. When I was younger, my mom and I volunteered at local schools and organizations to help make a difference in the lives of refugees coming to Erie from all over the world. The faces and stories of the people I met during this time made my decision to devote a year of service to All for All an easy one.
